We thought you were a Buddhist..

I remember Ramadhan was a big challenge when I was younger. I went to school in Davis, CA.. and there were only 2 Muslims in my school - me and another girl from Pakistan. So kids there had no clue about fasting and I had no idea how to explain. So every day I went to sit alone in the library.. and on days I wanted to hang out with my friends, I’d lie and say I forgot to bring my lunch. Which after a while sounded suspicious.. I think someone alerted the principal and one day my dad got a call from school.. they were concerned and wanted an explanation to why every day I did not have my lunch, why I wasn’t eating, why I didn’t drink after PE, why I didn’t accept food from friends.

Yeah.. so my dad had to explain to my principal about Islam and fasting, etc etc etc.. So then my principal had to explain to my classroom teacher, and she had to explain to my classmates. Which is how I found out they thought I was a Buddhist.

So now I sit here, these last few days of Ramadhan and think back to all those years growing up fasting in a school that thought I was a Buddhist because I was Asian. Haha. I think I had to endure more obstacles fasting as a kid back then compared to now as a grown up and Alhamdulillah for all those times.

I'm lazy, I'm sorry

Ermm so yeah.. again I didn't update anything for awhile hehe. Will try to be more consistent ok.
